Plantar warts are a result of human papillomavirus (HPV). They cause the skin to become hard and painful. Other symptoms include lesions on the bottom of your feet, a round skin callus, black spots, and pain. Plantar warts are the result of an infection with HPV in the outer layer of skin. The cracks in the feet allow for a virus to enter causing warts.
